Nothing is worse than looking at your accounts in Online Banking and noticing a charge that you did not place. If this ever happens to you or your card is lost or stolen, please contact us immediately at (865) 688-2424. Here are some ways to protect yourself and your accounts from debit card fraud.
- Never give your debit card number out for any transaction that claims to be “free”. If it were truly free, your debit card number would not be required.
- “Free trial” offers inevitably include additional shipments of products and additional charges if you do not cancel within the designated time frame. Keep this in mind when ordering “free trial” products.
- Online transactions should only be performed on secure websites. Check with the Better Business Bureau to verify a company’s reputation before giving out your debit card number. Conduct business with known and trusted sites only.
- Using your debit card for recurring transactions such as internet service, gym memberships, cable and satellite television, etc. often include a clause stating they may draw funds from your debit card on file to cover any charges owed to them. Be aware of this when using your debit card to set up recurring charges.
- Never give your PIN (Personal Identification Number) to anyone.
- Never write your PIN (Personal Identification Number) on your card.
- Choose a PIN (Personal Identification Number) that cannot be easily guessed.
- Monitor your checking account daily so that any unauthorized charges are noticed immediately.
